California

The Golden State has so many incredible places to visit that you could spend months here and barely scratch the surface. Whilst most travellers head to coast, we’ve always found ourselves drawn the stunning deserts, mountains and forests that keep bringing us back for more.

California is home to some of the world’s most famous national parks. Yosemite is one that everyone should visit in their lifetime, but you can’t miss the giant trees of Sequoia, the deserts of Joshua Tree, the mysterious Death Valley and the beautiful Redwoods.

With so much to choose from, you’ll find yourself continuously planning your next trip!

 Quick Summary

California Travel Guide
  • Top Tip: This state is huge, you’ll have a more relaxing trip if you don’t try to cover too much in one go. We met so many people who spent the majority of their holiday in the car!

  • Safety: Outside the cities, California is generally very safe, you will have to be more careful of wildlife more than humans! As with any major cities certain areas can be seedy so watch where you stay.

  • When to go: California changes dramatically between peak and off season. We recommend visiting in the spring or autumn (outside of school holidays) when the crowds are fewer and the weather is pleasant.

    • Peak Season: July - September (European summer school holidays)

    • Off Season: November - February (excluding Christmas).

  • Walk My World Cost Index: $$$$$ - California is not just one of the most expensive places in the USA, it’s one of the most expensive in the world. You can find bargains if you hunt around, but it becomes almost impossible during peak season and school holidays.
