We put it off for long enough and now we’re hooked…

The United States was always one of those “we want to do it, but after insert country here”. As soon as we got here though we realised we’d been missing out.

This huge country has something for everyone - stunning deserts, epic mountains, sprawling cities, the world’s best road trips and a friendly welcome everywhere you go. The only problem you’ll face is working out how to fit it all in!

Quick Summary

  • Top Tip: Buy an Annual Pass to the National Parks. You only need to visit 3 to make this worth it!

  • Currency: US Dollar

  • Visa: All visitors need to get a visa or visa waiver prior to arrival. We got the ESTA online which allows visits for up to 90 days per stay.

  • Safety: The USA is very safe on the whole, but you should be careful in big cities and take your usual precautions.

  • When to go: We visited the South-West during February and March and found it to be a brilliant time to visit. The crowds were minimal, the prices low and the weather was perfect for exploring (so long as don’t mind the occasional snow day).

    • Peak Season: July - September (Summer school holidays)

    • Off Season: December - March (excluding Christmas).

  • Walk My World Cost Index: $$$$ - Whilst there are some things which aren’t expensive (we’re struggling to find anywhere in the world with petrol this cheap) things like eating out, accommodation and car hire can add up to a costly trip.
