Tibumana waterfall is one of the closest to Ubud and is an impressive place to visit. Set within a really beautiful cove, and surrounded by flowers and jungle, Tibumana Waterfall won't disappoint. Tibumana gets quite busy but it’s still a lot less crowded throughout the day than some of the others like Tegenungen.
It's also a great spot for swimming as the water is deep and the pool is big enough for a decent swim. The water is cool, without being freezing - perfect for those steamy Bali days.
Tibumana Waterfall
The walk to Tibumana Waterfall from the car park takes around 10 minutes. We recommend bringing your own water, but if you want something ice cold then you can buy it from the sellers at the top (something that is refreshing on a humid Balinese day).
The path drops down from the car park through a gorgeous stretch of lush jungle, complete with loads of butterflies. The path was in pretty good condition and wasn’t as steep as many of the waterfalls near Ubud.
Your first sight of Tibumana is pretty special with two separate drops, and the perfect swimming hole.
Due to the height of the drop, the waterfall is pretty powerful and a lifeguard was patrolling on our visit, waiting to blow a whistle and wave a flag to tell you to move aside if you strayed too close to the drops. It is best to stay away from the falls if there has been a lot of rain recently as they can be incredibly powerful!
Rocks can also fall, so whilst this may sound like the locals being over protective, it’s best to heed their advice and stay within the correct areas.
It does make it feel less wild than other falls where you are left to your own devices, but it's still a gorgeous place for a dip.
It's definitely worth visiting if you're staying in Ubud and combining with a few other stops like the other nearby waterfalls and a sunrise at Tegalalang Rice Terrace.
Essential info about Tibumana Waterfall
The best way to see Tibumana Waterfall
By far the best way to see Tibumana is independently, by hiring your own driver for the day or riding on a motorbike. Joining a tour in Bali may seem like a cheap way to see some of the best spots, but what inevitably happens is that you go to these places at the worst time of day (when each waterfall is crowded) and you are given barely any time.
If you go independently (by driver or motorbike) you have complete control. If you want Tibumana without the crowds, then you can go early and stay as long as you want. You can also make a day of seeing other stunning waterfalls like Tukad Cepung which is nearby.
Tibumana Waterfall Entrance Fee
The entrance fee for Tibumana is the standard 10k price (just over $1 USD) and parking is free. Make sure you bring cash with you!
It's collected at a small kiosk on your way down.
Best time to visit Tibumana Waterfall
Tibumana is big enough to visit at any time of day and have a bit of space. However, if you want this place all to yourself then you'll have to arrive early.
It can get busy and people here don't tend to get out the way if you're interested in taking photos.
If we went again we would definitely go first thing in the morning for a more peaceful experience.
Getting to Tibumana Waterfall
Tibumana is only 45 minutes away from Ubud, making it a really easy half day trip. If you are going from Kuta or Canggu it is more like 1.5 hours.
We recommend caching your Google Maps as Tibumana isn’t the easiest of places to find as it isn’t signposted. However, Google Maps will take you there, just use location on this link.
How to get to Tibumana Waterfall
To get to Tibumana you have three choices: you can get a taxi, or hire a motorbike to get here.
Whilst motorbikes are cheap in Bali (about 50,000 Rupiah or $5) we wouldn’t recommend hiring one unless you have driven one before. You will see countless people in Bali who have grazes from falling off motorbikes or burns from the exhaust pipe. If you are confident on the motorbike, then this is a very cheap way to see a lot of the best of Bali with complete control.
We chose to hire a driver as Tibumana was 20 minutes away from Ubud, which is a long time to ride a motorbike on these narrow, busy and scary roads! You can haggle in Ubud or feel free to contact Wayan, a driver we’ve used every time in Bali. You can reach him on Instagram @wayan_driverbali.
Other waterfalls you should visit
Tukad Cepung
Tukad Cepung Waterfall is such a unique waterfall and unlike anything we’ve ever seen. It’s a waterfall in a cave with incredible light rays that appear in the morning. If you love waterfalls, this should be on your list!
It’s not too far from Tibumana (30 minute drive) and you can combine the two easily.
Nungnung - towards Munduk
Nungnung is a huge and powerful waterfall which feels truly wild. Whilst it isn’t the best for swimming (it is incredibly powerful, you can feel the spray from 20 metres away!), it is certainly one of the most picturesque in Bali. This is a great stop between Ubud and Munduk.
Banyumala - near Munduk
Banyumala Waterfall is another gem and one that very fewer people visit. As well as the beautiful falls, there’s a bamboo bridge which you can get some great photos on.
