South Australia may not have the blockbuster tourist attractions of other parts of the country, there's no Great Barrier Reef, Uluru or Sydney harbour, but it's home to some of the greatest trips we've been on in Australia.

Few places have abundant wildlife quite like Kangaroo Island (not only in Australia, but the world) and Coober Pedy certainly brings it's own unique style to Outback Australia. Add in stunning beaches that could be on a postcard, pristine nature with hardly a soul in sight, and some of the best weather in the country and you'll get an unforgettable trip.

Here are some photos we hope inspire you to visit this underrated part of Australia.

Adelaide Sunsets

Adelaide's beaches all face west, making them the perfect spot to be at the end of the day as the sky lights up. There's plenty of them as well, so it's unlikely you'll be sharing the view with many people.

Kangaroo Island

Kangaroo Island is one of our favourite places in the world. This stunning island is home to some of the best wildlife encounters in Australia with almost guaranteed koala, kangaroo, sea lion and wallaby sightings. You'll probably also spy one of those gorgeous little echidnas too.

It also has beautiful white sand beaches, great food (try the marron cafe) and endless roads with no one else on them.

The Outback - Coober Pedy

If you think the Outback is a lifeless, dull place, then you've never heard of Coober Pedy. The landscape in all directions is stunning and a trip here will be unlike anything you've seen before.

Situated in the driest part of Australia, Coober Pedy has thought of quirky ways to bring home comforts to one of the most inhospitable places in the country. Golf courses with no grass, underground hotels, spaceships in the middle of town and artistic sculptures are just the beginning.

The Coorong Peninsula

A short drive from Adelaide, Coorong is the place to head if you want to see emus and other birdlife. It's also home to vast pink salt lakes and sunsets that were breathtaking every single night. A trip out hiking in the national park will be one to remember. Spotting the two emus strolling although the salt lake is one of our fave Aussie animal encounters.
